Below is a list of easy reach courses all within a pitch and a putt of the Hotel!
The Northern Hotel is located in the heart of Angus and is a popular base for playing the top golf courses in the area. The courses on offer are an enjoyable mixture of parkland, heath and links that would satisfy golfers every need.
Brechin Closest to the hotel is Brechin golf course, a relatively flat course which boasts wonderful views of the Grampian Mountains. The greens are the outstanding element here, reputedly the best in the county especially on the old Braid section. 5 minutes from Hotel
Edzell Golf Club lies at the gateway to the Grampians in the foothills of the Angus Glens. Indeed the mountains form a backdrop to this lovely heathland/parkland course. The course is exceptional, a feisty series of varying challenges in a magnificent setting. 10 minutes from Hotel
Montrose only a 10 minute drive to the east coast you will find the town of Montrose which is home to the Medal and Broomfield course. The Medal Course is a majestic layout in the true traditions of Scottish links golf. Montrose’s Medal course might be an antique but as a final Open qualifying venue, it has never lost any of its teeth. This is as a true a test of links golf, a bold, gorse-lined battlement by the sea. 15 minutes from Hotel
Kirriemuir Golf Club at the foot of the Angus Glens is a pocket-sized parcel of golfing enjoyment fashioned in the 1920’s by the late, great golf architect, James Braid. 18 riveting holes placed into a 77-acre site with the precision of a Swiss watch. The course stands at a mere 5553 yards but every stroke requires timing, accuracy and Ballesteros-type imagination. 20 minutes from Hotel
Forfar Originally laid out by Old Tom Morris and later redesigned by James Braid the course at Forfar is set on beautiful wooded heathland. The terrain is almost ‘links’ like with undulating fairways lined by Scots Pine and lovely views towards the Angus Glens. With very little walking between green and next tee, generous fairways and excellent greens this compact course is easily completed in 3 ½ hours and can be tackled twice in a day quite comfortably. 20 minutes from Hotel
Arbroath The golf course of Arbroath's Artisans' Golf Club is a typical links course, quite flat with subtle undulations for its entire length. Seven holes go straight out on the inside of the course, three cut back and the rest follow the main East Coast railway line separating the fairways from the beach. It is also a very open golf course, with any wind coming off the water or from the west influencing play considerably. Although not as well known as some of its more famous neighbours, Arbroath golf course is a real treat for any discerning golfer, and is well worth a visit if you're in the area on a golfing break. 30 minutes from Hotel
Carnoustie The Famous Golf links is located just 20 miles from the hotel and played host to the Open Championship in July 2007. Why not end your stay with the toughest test in Open Championship golf? 30 minutes from Hotel
Letham Grange Golf Courses Only 12 miles from the Hotel is Letham Grange Golf Club with 2 challenging yet beautiful courses the Old & the Glens courses.
The Old Course officially opened in 1987 by Sir Henry Cotton is a par 73 Championship layout. It is a parkland course incorporating both tree-lined and open fairways. It features memorable water hazards on the par 3, 8th and par 4 10th hole. Every hole is different, presenting a variety of challenges to every level of golfer. The blue tees add another 336 yds to the lenth to make a fantastic championship course.
The Glens Course opened in 1992 and is a challenging par 68. It is a shorter and a little less demanding than the championship course. The finishing holes from the 13th onwards are tighter and more demanding than the first 12. The course is not the longest you’ll ever play but you need to think your way round if you are to be rewarded with a good score.
Both courses are 30 minutes from Hotel
